Lange musste David Reinbacher im NHL Entry Draft 2023 nicht warten, bis sein Name aufgerufen wurde. Schon an fünfter Position wurde der 18-jährige Österreicher von den Habs gewählt, ist damit nun gemeinsam mit Thomas Vanek der höchste heimische Draftpick in der NHL-Geschichte.
In den Sozialen Medien und diversen Foren wird die getroffene Wahl der Kanadier heiß diskutiert. Einige Anhänger sind der Meinung, dass weitaus bessere Spieler - wie im konkreten Fall der Russe Matvei Michkov - zur Verfügung gestanden wären.
Andere wiederum sehen in Reinbacher genauso wie die Verantwortlichen den Nummer-1-Verteidiger der Zukunft, den man an dieser Stelle nahezu nehmen musste.
